Who Wins The Pot At Poker Game?

The betting is finally over, and now it is time for players still in the hand to show everyone their cards. This will identify who will win with the best hand and will take home the pot.

A player has the option to discard his hand without even showing their cards to the other players, but a player in the deal of the game has the right to view the discarded hand upon their request if they called the hand matching a bet.

The act of showing the cards to everyone is called the showdown. All the players have the equal right to examine the contents of the discarded hands. Usually a showdown occurs during a all-in bet which is matched and the hole cards are flipped showing them to all at the table.

The following are the rules to identify who will take home the pot:

1) For that certain form of poker with too many hands is considered to be a dead hand. The one holding the dead hand cannot win the pot.

2) One player must still have at least one individual card or more. It is not right for players to discard their cards. Anyone who breaks this rule will have his hand ruled dead.

3) The hands at the showdown will be ranked according to the content of the cards. The player cannot defend his cards by speaking his or her opinion.

4) A live hand, on the other hand, is a hand that was placed on the table facing upward and was properly identified. These hands can win the pot.

5) Poker hands that were discarded or have never been primly identified or that were turned face-up (done by the dealer by the request of another player) are all dead hands. These hands cannot win the pot.

6) An honest mistake is committed when a player has accidentally miscalled the value of a hand although this is considered to be fixable and if all players agree the hand is still live and able to win the pot.

7) A hand may be revived and be considered as a live hand if the hand has been thrown away untouched except for the dealer.

8) The proper procedure for the dealer is to show his hand and to call the attention of everyone especially the cards that are still faced-down as to ensure no cheating is taking place.

9) If one player is absent from the table no one even the dealer can showdown their hands. Yet, the showdown may continue even if there is an absent player provided he or she gave permission.

10) A hand that was discarded facing up is still considered to be a live hand.
